FROM THE DESK OF THE MUSIC DIRECTOR
Welcome back, all DMM musicians!
Jhandie and I hope that you are enjoying this wonderful weather
in a relaxing manner! We have been home, surprisingly, all
of July and August other than 2-day trips nearby with our trailer.
Where could we find a better place to spend this summer
than around the lower mainland? We are just now realizing
that this is the first summer we've stayed around home in about
35 years, because we have always travelled during the school holidays.
And our new corner apartment is extremely inviting and relaxing.
Please phone us if you are coming to Ladner - the coffee
pot is usually on, and the corkscrew handy, so don't hesitate
to call us! (Kens note - but Curt & Jhandie are
leaving for Alaska, Russia, Korea & Japan next week!)

Our fall rehearsals will involve some new music, some old
music, some easy sight-reading music, and some exciting new Christmas
music ("A Canadian Brass Christmas").
Known concerts at this time are:
Saturday, November 8 at Tsawwassen Kinsmen Centre, start 2 pm
Sunday, December 7 at Delta Hospital Extended
Care, start 2 pm
Tuesday, December 9 at the Genesis Theatre (joint
concert with the Delta Concert Band and the Delta Choir), start 7 pm
We had mentioned that our third CD recording may take place
during the fall, but I have decided to postpone that until after
Christmas. There is no point in rushing a good thing, and many
decisions about music choices, recording location, recording engineer,
number of CD's, distribution, costs, copyright, etc., need to
be researched carefully before plunging forward.
2. WINTER & SPRING TERMS, 2009
Winter Term: January 6 to March 10, 2009 (10 weeks).
Spring Term: March 31 to June 16, 2009 (12 weeks)
3. MUSIC DIRECTORS MARGARET AND CURT
We are so fortunate to have Margaret Behenna as our Assistant
Director. Margaret and I have traditionally divided the
folder and each of us has conducted certain selections. However,
this has apparently created a shock factor when one
of us conducts the others selections. So we are going
to change that pattern; Margaret and I will each take turns conducting
any and all music when we are both present. This will give
the band opportunity to see both of us conduct any given piece
of music. Margaret and I will work more closely together
in preparing a selection, to strive for as much continuity as
possible between conductors.

SOCIAL EVENT: A BIG
THANK YOU to David & Janie Jackson, who hosted a potluck picnic
for DMM members and their partners in their backyard on September
6. About 40 people enjoyed fabulous weather, fantastic food,
and scintillating conversation. Activities included a Bocce
Ball tournament, and a campfire singalong, accompanied by 3 guitars
and Henrys ukulele.
’Though the sun had set and the moon was bright
They played on and on with all their might
Till the competition was out of sight.
