| In addition to the 40 some rehearsals the Delta Music Makers
perform approximately 20 concerts each year. The band is a community
society and so most of the concerts are performed locally - hospitals, senior housing, community and commercial centers and in the
summer, concerts-in-the-park. On average every three years the band takes an extended tour
together away from home and have performed in at Disneyland in California,
Disney World in Florida, Reno Nevada, and Canyonlands of the Southwestern
United States. During the summer of 1999, we were invited to perform
in early July on Vancouver Island for Chemainus Days.
Two weeks later thirty five members of the band, along with 15 friends
and spouses - "band-aides" - toured Great
Britain for three weeks, performing at Windsor Station in front of the
castle, Castle Howard in Yorkshire, Stirling Castle and Portobello in
Edinburgh, for the Fringe Festival in Chester, in Battle at the site of
the 1066 Norman Invasion and on the famous band shell on the beach at
Eastbourne. Concerts 2000
has a brief review of some of our Summer outdoor performances.

·
100% DMM attendance at concerts is always pursued but rarely
achieved, because all our band members have other lives!
Projected Attendance Sheet will be passed
around for you to indicate your attendance intentions - Curt needs to know
accurate numbers to determine setup and choice of music.
·
Always arrive 45 minutes prior to start-time. All outdoor
concerts are weather-dependent; phone your section leader 2 hours prior to
start-time.
·
New members should speak to Jesse about a music stand and
Jhandie about a uniform (DMM supplies jacket, tie, cummerbund, while
members supply their own black pants or skirt, white shirt, black shoes).
·
We often go for a snack, dinner, or drink after concerts;
please give Social Convenor Jesse your suggested restaurants for
the above dates and locations.

| A note on the photo credits - A number of our musicians are skilled
photographers as well, however they are required to play during
performances. This has produced a number of alliances where a band
member brings the equipment and film and collaborates on the details
of a shoot with friends. Thus we have Shirley McClelland working
trombonist, Janet Friesen's camera, Merv Graham with Hugh Martell's
equipment and Alex Young tooting his tuba while
his daughter Linda Belong shoots the film. |
